At CES PMA 2012, I got to check out the Cinematics CT2. The Cinematics CT2 is a much less expensive, rehoused Zeiss still lens designed to look like the real Zeiss CP2.
Maybe rehoused is not the correct word to use. The new Cinematics housing is actually placed OVER an existing Zeiss still lens, modifying it into a somewhat cinema style lens.
The elements will still be as sharp as a Zeiss lens possibly can be, but this is a cheap alternative to purchasing a Zeiss cinema prime CP.2 at upwards of $4K.
Cinematics CT2: A Cost-Effective Cinema Lens Solution
The Cinematics CT2 isn’t a traditional rehousing. Instead of a complete lens rebuild, Cinematics uses a custom housing that fits over the original Zeiss still lens.
This method allows users to experience Zeiss optics with a more accessible price point, serving as a viable alternative to purchasing a Zeiss cinema prime CP.2, which can cost upwards of $4,000.
