Furry Stickover Windscreen for GoPro HD

The GoPro HD Camera is very capable of picking up decent audio of rip roaring engines and screeching tires, but actual ‘wind rumbling’ can make or break your audio. To get the best possible audio when your GoPro is exposed to high wind conditions, we put the latest Windscreen from Micover to the test. This Furry little backing mounts to the stock non-waterproof cover of your GoPro HD with a strong adhesive. There’s a thick layer of acoustically transparent fabric under the same Furry material found on other Micover products. The results to eliminate wind rumbling at super close range are like night and day. We feel this is a must have for any GoPro owner.

I’m waiting for my Micover to arrive.

The other alternative of course is to use an external mic (with the skeleton casing) and place the mic in a fanny pack or something. I’ve tried that on a Drift HD, and it works very well – about the ONLY thing that works well on the Drift! :(

i have a go pro hd hero 960 given to me as a present. however i have very bad wind noise when using the waterproof casing even when travelling at 40mph in my car. I want to use it for motocross racing so i need to use the waterproof casing with the back closed not open. Do you have any solution to this extremely loud noise. Could the cam be faulty etc
    thank you

    big jon

      Hey Jon,
There will inevitably be some noise introduced when you’re using the GoPro on the outside of a car, motorcycle, boat, etc. That being said, if you have a waterproof housing on your GoPro, there should NOT be any wind noise coming into your mic. If you’re getting an extremely loud noise, perhaps it’s not wind sound. Can you upload a clip and share it with me? I can try to diagnose the problem from there.

hello i have uploaded the video for you if you could help me that would be great. it was filmed with the car doing 40mph and i moved the camera to show you the sound inside and outside the car. This camera is going to be mounted on my motocross helmet so i need to use the waterproof casing. is it suitable for what i want it for and can i get rid of the noise. Thank you so much. Check out the VIDEO HERE.

Johnny, that sound is occurring with the water proof case on the GoPro? Try covering the microphone with something some sort of material and see if it still happens. In the case, the wind noise should be cut down significantly. If the wind noise is still very loud, it might be the mic on your GoPro. In that case, I’d just cut the sound on all of your action shots and cover it up with music in post. Normally you’ll hear noise, but that is pretty loud.

yea it is with the waterproof casing fully closed. The sound is really bad as u can see from the video. Do you think it is faulty or something as i have not seen anything else this bad on youtube. I will cover the mic and do a test later like you said to try. i will let you know how i get on but in the mean time it is going to be positioned on my motocross helmet do you think i should ask for a replacement?

    • Olivia says:

If you can exchange it, I would. The noise seems to be worse than I’m used to hearing. Let’s see how the test goes with the mic covered. Although, you shouldn’t be having such terrible wind noise.
