I take Varavon’s Armor Mini and Profinder out for a spin around this sexy new school muscle car. I really love the way the Canon 5D Mark II looks with the Profinder on the Armor Mini cage. It’s very gun-like, super lightweight and versatile. The Armor Mini is compatible with either Canon’s 5D or 7D DSLR via varying mounting plates. This cage provides space for you to mount your audio, LED light or external monitor, for example. There are 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 threaded holes around the cage and 2 movable 15mm rods (hex screw).
The Profinder is Varavon’s low angle LCD Viewfinder compatible with Canon’s 5D Mark II, 7D, 550D (T2i), soon for the PF-1Dmk4 and Nikon’s D7000. If you’re having trouble viewing your LCD while capturing low shots, the Profinder enables you the viewing angle to do so using an internal mirror. This viewfinder gives you a clear view of your LCD screen by blocking outside light from blowing out the screen. The eyecup on the Profinder was comfortable and is a seamless fit with the cage attached. The Profinder can be purchased separately and can be used with or without the cage. Varavon also makes Video Camera rigs, Sliders, and other viewfinders. More information about Varavon products can be found at their website at http://www.varavon.com/.
**In light of all the Profinder/Z-Finder compare questions, I snapped a few photos to give you an idea of the size difference. The Profinder is slightly larger, however you must consider the fact that you do have low angle viewing available on the Varavon. We have both in the studio and use both the Profinder and Z-Finder. It’s really about what best suits your needs as a shooter.
