Tuesday Tips – MacBook Camera Lens
Welcome to Tuesday Tips! Every Tuesday from this day forth, I shall bring to you… a tip. Today’s Tuesday Tip is brought to you by Skina Wide + Macro Lens for Mobile Phones and Digital Cameras. For those of you out there web blogging on a regular basis, this may help you expand your video possibilities. The magnetic ring on the back of this lens allows it to stick right onto a MacBook camera lens without the additional sticker magnet that the lens comes with. The simple lens expands the viewing range by 49%. Simple, fun, easy… and dirt cheap! The only downfall of this method is the presence of the green LED camera light that ghosts in the picture like an orb. It’s a little annoying. Also, there can be some vignetting. Any creepers out there know how to turn the light off without taking apart the computer?
I hope you enjoyed this Tuesday Tip! Below you can find the lens that was used in the making of this OTech Tuesday Tip.

I don’t own anything Apple/Mac, so I’m unfamiliar with their products.
Why is the video image flipped/reversed horizontally?
@Marty I noticed that too!
I guess just flip it back in Adobe Premiere Pro …easy enough fix.
A small piece of gaffer tape?
Noticeable loss of optical quality. You might want to go with more than a $2 lens if you plan to use it often.
I usually just paint over the green light with a bit of acrylic paint. Easy to scrape off if you need to.
@DIYFilm No I haven’t revisited this trick since we made the video. Let me know if you give it a go!
