Tuesday Tips – DIY Suction Cup Mount for Action Cameras
Today is Tuesday which means one thing: Tuesday Tips! This one is a merging of a few of my favorite things.. DIY, action cameras and cars. I show you guys how a little red handle can go a long way. I’m using a heavy-duty dual suction cup with a 1/4-20″ hold drilled into the handle to mount my GoPro HERO 2 onto.
Often found for under $10 dollars, these particular suction cup handles can grip glass, desks, walls.. we tested it on a ton of crap and it failed not once. These are also often times referred to as dent pullers or aquarium suction cups, as they grip and stick heavy objects. The suction cup handle I’m using is fixed and really only works on flat surfaces. You can, however purchase articulating handle dual cups if you need to grip a curved surface.

For in the car scenes that need lighting in tight spaces, these type of cups are great to mount LED lights, microphones, mirrors.. just about anything goes with these guys. If you can DIY it, the cups should be able to hold it. Another nice quality about the dual cups with a handle is that the handle is hollow. This means that you can pass wires, tie straps or anything that will fit, through this unit. Happy Tuesday!

Any idea if these are strong enough to hold a 5D or 7D?
@Daniel Haven’t tried a 5D or 7D, however we did test out a 60D and it worked just fine.
How did you mount the 60d?
@Damian Just with a small ballhead screwed directly into the suction cup handle
Cool idea Olivia!
But what kind of lens/case are you using on your GoPro?

Thanks for this tip, please can’t you describe all the accessories that we ned for mounting the 60d ? thanks in advance
@Franklin I simply mounted the 60D with a small ballhead that was screwed directly into the handle of the suction cup mount.
This solution could be less shakey then the official gopro suction mount because that thing has quite a long arm which means more shake for camera. Could be interesting to try this on a snowboard.
This is really cool! Great video!
What lens do you have on your GoPro?

I made one of these for my 60d and shot on the roof of a car really simple to make photo HERE
This had a full fluid head and rails.
