Tuesday Tip: Last Minute DIY Sound Booth
Immediately after my coverage of PhotoPlus Expo 2012, I was going on vacation and needed to send a few voice over recordings back to the studio. When recording in a small untreated room you would normally have problems with an echo or reverb. Our solution was to build a frame of insulation around the microphone to prevent my voice from traveling around the room.
The idea works great if you’re in a pinch just using items that we normally travel with. If you don’t have a Zoom H1 recorder, this solution can also give you better recordings through your iPhone. There is also another great DIY Portable Sound idea here: http://cheesycam.com/diy-portable-sound-booth/

Seems to work great! Looks silly but that doesn’t matter if you get a good result. Great tip!
I’m curious since your mouth was close to the mic, if you had issues with P’s popping, etc…, or did you do something to deal with that. Great improvised idea, BTW

Great point Richard. This could be an issue talking directly into any microphone. Here we used the zoom foam cover to prevent the wind noise from the ‘plosives’. You can see it in the video.
That was a massive difference and a nice on the fly idea, I have done this before with couch cushions.
