The Sony SLT-A99 Digital Camera is a 35mm full frame digital camera body equipped with Sony’s translucent mirror technology. This enables it to shoot without the delay of a reflex mirror and its Dual Autofocus System to continuously monitor and alter its focus in real time. The A99’s image sensor is approximately 1.5 times more light sensitive and twice as effective at reducing random image noise as past models. Non-compression HDMI output, with display info turned off, facilitates external recording and the Alpha SLT-A99 is equipped with an OLED EVF and 3-Way Tiltable LCD.

The new Sony NEX-VG900 Full-Frame Interchangeable Lens Camcorder is the first camcorder with a 35mm sensor to fully exploit the shooting potential of interchangeable lenses. With a resolution of 24.3 effective megapixels, the camcorder’s Exmor CMOS sensor is around 40 times larger than its equivalent in standard consumer camcorders and more than twice the size of the APS-C sensor found in other interchangeable lens Handycam models. With a wider view, low-light sensitivity for low-noise images and robust defocusing capabilities thanks to an ultra-shallow depth of field, the NEX-VG900 is truly a first. The NEX-VG900 also captures full-frame, 24 megapixel still photos, with RAW format support and harnesses the ability to shoot video in 24p progressive mode with CinemaTone Gamma and CinemaTone Color presets to precisely control cinematic grading effects. Additionally, AVCHD version 2.0 standard 60p recording maximizes the range of creative options.

That RX1 is awful expensive (approx. $2800) for a compact …and it doesn’t look all that compact to me. The user is stuck with a 35mm lens. I imagine a lot of the expense went into the manuf. of that specific lens with the unique built-in shutter, so the camera body could remain small. The non-compressed out is impressive, but they need to drop that price way down.

I would rather carry around the SLT-89 than the RX1 …both have the exact same price up on B&H. That’s a no-brainer.
