Sling Follow Focus – NEW from Varavon
Introducing: Sling Follow Focus from VARAVON on Vimeo.
VARAVON introduces their new Sling Follow Focus. Aptly named for its resemblance to a sling shot, it tightly fits on ANY lens size available and can also be used for zoom purposes.

The simple functionality itself should be a buzz but the price point? That’s something you’re not going to wan’t to miss out on. Looks like you don’t have to settle for a jar opener anymore.. CLICK HERE for the current price on Varavon’s website.
To give you some insight into how this unit looks in use, here is a video from Emm over at cheesycam.com using the Sling Focus this weekend.

Varavon Sling Zoom Follow Focus Handle Lever – via eBay

Hi Richard, this type of follow focus system is very different from traditional FF systems in the sense that no rails are needed and pulling focus is done by actually turning your fingers around the lens. The Varavon Sling FF turns the focus rings quickly and smoothly, but you must keep in mind that pulling focus with the Sling is achieved by turning the lever around the lens manually. Although this system works, the level of efficiency may strongly depend on your workflow and setup.
Rubber jar openers at Bed Bath and Beyond. Nearly identical in design to this product but with a rachet grip (instead of the holes from the Varavon).
Cost? $3.99
They have a LOT of give and can introduce some play. But yes, could be a solution as well. Just not as low profile or sturdy.
I’ve used the jar opener. Does what you would expect, but it isn’t ideal in the sense you are still essentially working the lens with your hand. The bigger question is, how are they actually jar openers? I needed a jar open so I thought Eureka! i’ll grab it from my camera bag. Doesn’t do a thing on a tough jar!
@Mike Traditional jar openers can be flimsy and create a lot of play when you’re trying to pull focus. The Sling FF is more sturdy and the lever doesn’t bend.
Will this fit on the canon 50mm 1.8? The focus ring on that is pretty narrow. Big fan of your videos by the way
Very informative!
@Leon Yes, the Sling Focus will fit the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens. This lens is not really made for manual focusing though so it might not withstand this type of usage, just a heads up!
Hi! Awesome page.. I’d just like to share that I got this sling yesterday, and I found it hard to fit the 50mm 1.8. Fits the kit lens fine though. The focus rings on the nifty are VERY narrow and have some sort of angle to it which makes it hard for the sling to sit snug on the ring. Ill think of some sort of DIY solution to it, but for now I’ll cry in the corner. Haha
