I’ve been poking around recently online, sifting through hard drives, checking out what’s new. Today I stumbled upon this Seagate Expansion 500 GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive going right now for 31% off.
Pros: 500 GB of portable storage offers up a small drive when traveling. Powered via USB, there is no need to plug into an outlet.
Cons: 500 GB of storage space may be insufficient. Portable drives typically don’t hold up as long as their stationary counterparts.

Why not go for the 750 GB version?
“Average read/write speeds: 30/25 MBps”
That’s USB 2.0 speed…I hope they’re not using the USB3.0 label to imply speed which isn’t there.
USB 3.0 should be at least 40 MBps (though hopefully batter). Though with my Western Digital Passports, I needed 2 firmware updates before I could get speeds above 30MBps.
Dave, you’re correct, typo on my behalf. However, USB 3.0 can support speeds up to 5 Gbit/s. The issue is your computer’s hardware. This Seagate is probably a better option for archiving and transferring media as a small portable solution.
Firewire 800 is much slower than 3.0 and 3.0 is less than thunderbolt
