This year at CES 2013, I was able to score some face time with the NEW RØDE iXY Stereo Microphone. In the video below, we see why this unit is more than just your typical external recording device. Ryan from RØDE Microphones details for us what the iXY Stereo Mic is capable of and how pairing it with the RØDE Rec HD app. will allow you to optimize your audio recording.
In the past I’ve used the Zoom H1 Digital Recorder as a wireless handheld microphone while simultaneously using it as an external audio recorder. Although this method worked fine for me, I was limited to what I could then do with those audio clips. If I’m recording and need to edit and transfer audio files quickly, the RØDE Rec HD app. allows me to not only edit my recordings on the spot and I can also upload them directly to SoundCloud and Dropbox directly from my iPhone or iPad.
The RØDE iXY Stereo Microphone is a recording device capable of up to 24-bit/96k* recording (iPhone natively will only allow understand up to about 48k) and has an on-board high-fidelity A/D conversion so your iXY recordings are rich and accurate. At the heart of the iXY is a matched pair of ½” cardioid condenser capsules, fixed in a perfect 90 degree ‘near-coincident’ alignment. According to RØDE, this results in immersive and true-to-life stereo recordings, captured in incredibly high detail.
The iXY is compatible with iPhone® 4S, iPhone® 4, iPad® (3rd generation), iPad® 2 & iPad®.
