RØDE Releases an All New VideoMic

RØDE Microphones announced their alliance with UK-based audio accessory maker Rycote into a wide range of microphones and accessories, commencing with its popular VideoMic on-camera microphone. The RØDE VideoMic with Lyre onboard marks the debut product of the RØDE Rycote relationship. Its new form factor using the integrated Lyre suspension, gives the microphone a lower profile and also features an upgraded all metal cold-shoe mount for increased rigidity.

Rycote’s Lyre is a non-elasticated suspension structure composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, and is markedly more effective at acoustically decoupling microphones from unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than elasticated suspensions. The Lyre is virtually indestructible. It will never wear out, sag, snap or require any rethreading to maintain its effectiveness. Under the details of the agreement, RØDE will have access to implement the Lyre suspension element across a wide range of microphones and accessories, on both an external and internal level.

The RØDE VideoMic featuring Rycote Lyre suspension is shipping to authorized RØDE retailers worldwide this month for a fraction of what you’ll pay for the more expensive, current VideoMic Pro. At the moment of release, you can expect the new VideoMic to retail for around $149. Once the older versions taper off, the new VM will probably land in at around $169.

I wish this mic has the +20db boost the Pro has :(

  • Brandon says:

So is it just the mount that has changed? or does it sound better as well?

  • Victor says:

I wonder if Rode can sell just the mount because I already have the VideoMic…. that mount looks very cool.

Are they fixing the Videomic Pro as well then in the near future? I am in the market and don’t want to get the Pro and have version 2 come out a month later. Thanks!

  • Andrew says:

The sound of the design of the mount sounds good, no more rubberbands. But the mix of red and black isn’t done well. Looks weird. Hope they just do an all black one.

I have the Video Mic Pro and I hate the rubber band system they have for their shock design. I have lost bands when transporting the mic plus the locking system to hold the bands is not good.. They never stay on. Will the Video Mic Pro get an upgrade like this too?
