Pad Prompter Now Compatible with a Simple Light Stand Only
The Pad Prompter is a teleprompter made for the iPad 1 or iPad 2. Due to numerous requests, they now offer a new version of the popular Pad Prompter for users without 15mm rail setup rigs. This unit comes with an aluminium plate adapter on the bottom of the unit instead of the hardware for use with 15mm rails. This plate adaptor allows you to start prompting with a simple Light Stand in front of your camera to support the Pad Prompter.
Teleprompters are coming down in both price and size, making it easier and more affordable for Field shooters and Studio shooters to cut costs on poor takes. The Pad Prompter is a life saver for our OTech video reviews. This unit is thin, light, portable and so easy to set up. The Pad Prompter is height adjustable to fit any 15mm rod set up and now it is compatible with a simple Light Stand only. Only 70/30 HD beamsplitter glass is used, no cheap acrylic here. This translates to a clear and easy to read script even in bright daylight. The images captured are also clean as the glass doesn’t produce distortion or reduction in much sharpness.
The Pad Prompter uses a lens hood and side panels for daylight saturation. Complete anodized aluminum hardware is included and the Pad Prompter comes with a carrying case that looks like your standard laptop case but much lighter. Inside Pad Prompter’s carrying case is a soft custom fit molded insert for ultimate protection when going mobile with your device. Assembling the Pad Prompter in the field is a cake walk and all the necessary pieces are included. The 15mm rail hardware is not included with this model. There is a complete model with 15mm rods and clamps if you want to attach the unit to a tripod.

Which teleprompter app do you use or recommend with this setup?
@Dan I use Pro Prompter and remote control with my iPhone. You can watch an OTech review on it HERE.
Hi Olivia, what’s your take on offerings from Tiffen and Datavideo? They are cost more than Pad Prompter so are we at any disadvantage if we get the Pad Prompter?
@Baron What will you be shooting with? Could you tell me which models you’re looking at from Listec and Datavideo?
Am I a total novice? I can’t figure out how to get this attached to the light stand. I’m using it with a second tripod, but this thing is literally on it’s last legs, so I want to use a light stand. I just don’t see how it connects.
@Mike Did you purchase the Light Stand edition? If you email me in my “Contact” section of the blog, I’ll respond and perhaps you can send over a photo so I can assist.
Dear Olivia,
I see on your web site that you had reviewed both the PadPrompter and ProPrompter? Which do you prefer? Which do you find easier, quicker to setup and breakdown? Thank you in advance.
- Nick
@Nick The PadPrompter is awesome, the setup and break down is quick and super simple. You just need an iPad and an iPhone if you want to remote in. ProPrompter is an app that allows you to use your iPad and iPhone with the prompter system. ProPrompter is pretty easy and works well 90% of the time- it can be glitchy and needs a reboot every now and then.
Mike, did you ever solve your light stand mounting problem? I’m in the same boat.
The light stand edition comes with no mounting bracket of any kind. It’s hard to figure out how to mount this to a light stand without some kind of adapter. Matth
G’day from Australia.
The PadPrompter with the 15mm rail system attachments — do you need a rail system already on your tripod, or does the kit do it all for you? I’m a complete novice on DSLR video, but this PadPrompter will hopefully solve a thousand problems for me. I already have a tripod frm my landscape still shooting days.
Thanks,
Lee
@Lee You will need to purchase 2 pairs of 15mm rods to hold your camera up and level to the Pad Prompter and also to hold the Pad Prompter up. There is a 1/4-20″ female thread to attach the Pad Prompter onto your tripod. Here is a LINK to an example of 15mm rods you could use. We used two longer and two shorter, I believe they were 10″ and 6″.
