Olympus OM-D E-M5 Available for Pre-Order

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 is now available on B&H for pre-order. This is the first Olympus micro four thirds camera to come with a built-in Electronic View Finder. Yes, that’s a nice Snapple fact, but how does this hold up against other mirrorless competitors on the market? I haven’t gotten my hands on the new Olympus as of yet, not sure how I feel about it.. thoughts?

The IBIS samples from testers look incredible. The fact it works in video is amazing. The AF system, while not DSLR class for AF-C, is very responsive in AF-S. NEX-7 trumps in the sensor department and EVF but requires more stabilization to pull off per pixel sharpness. Lenses are also lacking. OM-D wins as an all around camera but NEX-7 wins for specialty applications.

I agree with J. For photo-only the OM-D wins. I really don’t need all of the megapixels of the NEX, and I really like the micro 4/3 lens selection (I own a GH2 and Nikon D90). If I was more into video, then definitely the NEX. For the landscape video stuff I shoot, I now prefer 1080 60P. Hopefully the GH3 will have that feature.

I’ll keep us all posted as much as possible on the GH3.. I’m excited about what it may bring to the table since the GH2 is so wonderful.
