Manfrotto Sympla DSLR Camera Rig System

Manfrotto’s Sympla is a rig system that can be expanded to fit any shooter’s needs. It is built for flexibility and speed, so you can change anything and everything easily and quickly. The Sympla can be shoulder-supported, hand-held, or tripod/monopod-mounted.

Sympla Plates
Your camera will attach to the quick release plate on the Sympla. This plate system allows for vertical and lateral adjustments and can be adjusted with one hand which is nice while you’re shooting. This plate uses the the standard Manfrotto QR plates so you can go from a tripod to the rig very easily. You can also mount a plate to the bottom of the rig.

Universal Mount
The Universal Mount has an “open hook” design, which makes it self-supporting even when unlocked. Unlike traditional clamping systems that have holes for your 15mm rails to slide into then clamp down on, the Universal Mount is locked with a repositionable locking lever. This is an extremely versatile piece, since there it has 4 x 3/8″ and 2 x ¼” female threads. You can attach arms, adapters and other accessories onto it.

Flexible Mattebox
The Flexible Mattebox is a universal light-hood, a positionable anti-glare/anti-reflection shield with a double 4×4″ filter-holder, one rotatable and one stationary. This Mattebox has tool-free height and front-back movements as well as a swing away feature for fast lens swapping.

Adjustable Handles
The Sympla has ball joint handles that can rotate a full 360º. This makes for better ergonomics and positioning flexibility.

Clamp on Remote Control
The Clamp on Remote Control gives you the ability to focus, program focus pre-sets, auto-focus and focusing speed control. You can also record start and stop, shutter release, live view, digital zoom, control aperture, exposure and iSO settings. The remote is future proof as well so you can always update the firmware via USB connection. By positioning this remote on the handle of the rig, you don’t need to move your hands to pull focus or adjust settings on your camera.

Shoulder Pad and Counter Weights
There is also a rubber covered shoulder pad and stackable counter weights that can be used with the Sympla. You can find more information and other accessories available for the Manfrotto Sympla line via B&H (Click Here).

This looks promising rig, However I’d like to see it in action in the field Tests.
Would you be able to carry out more practical review in action?

    Thanks.

Wow that’s an impressive rig, I mean I don’t really know all that much about camera’s, but how much would a rig like that cost to setup? And who might want to use something like that?

    • Olivia says:

@Dylan The current price is listed in the link at the bottom of the post. I don’t price the items since this number tends to change. Event shooters often use rigs to hold their camera setups for mobility. The rig distributes the weight of their camera setup so the bulk of it isn’t carried on just their arms.
