3 LED Video Light Tests

Chris Collins with WideOpenCamera.com ran tests with a few different LED Video lights. One was a 312 LED light which I also reviewed (here), the Switronix Torch, along with the Lite Panel Micro Pro. From the results, I thought the 312 performed extremely well and it’s also the cheapest from the bunch. Thanks for the test Chris.

Just a few days ago we attempted to see what the run time was with the 312 Bi Color LED Video light at full power using generic Sony NPF550 batteries (these came with the light). Using a time lapse method to monitor the light, the idea was that it would run at approximately 1 hour or so. So we started the test in the early evening, and at 2 hours 20 minutes there was only a slight drop in light output, but we had to stop the test and go home. So needless to say, we still don’t know what the full run time is! We’re going to try this again to find our final conclusion, but the 312 has shown to be a very popular LED light that can outperform even more expensive options.

  • We used the LitePanels Micro Pro and it’s inexpensive but not very bright beyond six feet in room lighting —and it’s nearly useless outdoors for anything except a weak catch light. The stand foot at the bottom of the unit is made of plastic and ours cracked within a few months of use. We can only use it hand-held :(
