Konova Motorized Motion Controller for Timelapse and Motion Control

The Konova Motorized Motion Controller for Timelapse and Motion Control is a very inexpensive option for Motorized Motion Control Timelapse. In the video below I show you what this product is, how it works and how to put it all together- it’s so simple!

Konova offers different kits with varying motors. You can really pick and choose not only the length of your slider but also which motor you want and also add on the accessories you will need.
You can find these options on Konova’s website HERE.

In the video below, from NAB 2012, I interviewed Mark with Konova. He explains the capabilities of each differing motor option along with what you can expect from each. The Time Lapse Controller has Dynamic Range to control how slow/fast it will move. 100 to 1 for live video capture or 1000 to 1 for very tiny incremental movements. Mark also explains to us that the Sloo Motion Controller is for live action motion with a 10 to 1 range and RAMP. Ramp allows you to control the speed that your camera will begin to move and how quickly or slowly it will stop.

You can take a look at Konova’s different Time Lapse Controller Kits (Here).

Any chance you’ll be getting the Konova Time Lapse / Basic Motion Controller Bundle in any time soon? It looks like it attaches the same way, but I’d like to see how to operate it. Hopefully it’s not too much to handle while there’s soo may other things going on during a shoot.

@Steven I will not be getting the Basic Motion Controller Bundle. If you understand how to set this unit up and break it down, it’s pretty simple to bring on a shoot if you have the spare camera. I like the fact that I was able to just set it up and leave it to shoot the photos. One thing I did learn was that you must keep in mind any shift in your lighting. On my first test run, I overexposed my final shots completely because I did not take into consideration where the focus would end up. The set lights blew the end of my time lapse ways out. If going all manual, you will either need to be sure everything is controlled or that you allow yourself time to periodically check the exposure.

I was considering the motion controller for my slider. But looks like it has too many wires!

You mentioned in the video that it had a sync cable for Canon DSLRs. Does it include one for Nikons?

  • John says:

The handle/knob at 1:40 you are talking about is a ratcheting kind, you can pull the handle and reposition it if you want.

I have the crank upgrade and found that out.

So I just got mine today and you video made it easier to put everything together. One question I have is about the 2 limiters that were included, it doesn’t show how to install or use them in the brief manual. How do they how and how do I intall them? Thanks.

@Chris I will get back to this when I get back to the studio next week. I don’t have the unit with me so please hang tight or let me know if you’ve figured it out. Thanks!

would you choose this over a dynamic perception slider bundle. im looking to buy a used one at a i guess good price. comes with a extra set of extension rails

    thanks

    • Olivia says:

@adic The Dynamic Perception is a much different slider (more expensive). I haven’t played around with the one here too much so I can’t give an honest opinion. I’d sugest taking a look at what you need from it: how much weight are you looking to carry on the trolley, what types of applications will you be using, will this need to be used for a lot of mobile shooting.. then compare the two and go from there. Hope this helps!

Hi Olivia: I do not speak English very well, but I will do my best.
I definitely want to invest in a Slider and seen two that are convincing to me, such as Konova and VARAVON.
Konova is more expensive than VARAVON.
You who know both, which do you think are the pros and cons?
    regards
    Benjamin
