I ran into Jem Schofield from theC47.com in my final hour at the Photo Plus Expo this year. We talked a bit about the coolest gear we saw from PPE, the our blogs and caught up about some other news in video and production.
Lighting seemed to be a huge part of what many companies have been focusing their attention on from NAB to PPE. The three stand-outs for Jem and me can be found below.
Rosco’s MIRO CUBE™ series of LED wash lights packs 48 watts outputting more than 3000 lumens into a compact and portable 4 inch cube that weighs just 2-1/2lbs.
The MIRO CUBE™ plugs directly into the wall anywhere in the world, automatically adjusting to mains power from 90-240vAC 50-60hz. Drawing less than ½ an amp of current, more than 40 MIRO CUBES™ can be plugged into a single 20A circuit. An intuitive LCD control panel sets virtually every aspect of the lights including a master-slave configuration for fast lighting set-ups. Completely flicker free dimming is available via DMX (in 8 or 16 bit resolution).
The novel through bolted yoke design allows units to be easily ganged into multi-unit strips and arrays for greater output and coverage.
Available in versions that offer full color mixing, tunable color temperature white light, or high powered ultra-violet light for black-light effects, the MIRO CUBE™ luminaires are a feature packed LED light.
The Westcott Ice Light is a dimmable, 5200-5400K LED light in the form of a 20.25″ baton or wand. This is a light source unlike most you’ve probably seen. This light draws power from a built-in battery that will run for 60 minutes on a 2.5 hour charge. And at 100-240V AC, you can charge it anywhere there’s electricity. While the ergonomic shape easily lends to handheld operation, there’s a 1/4″-20 tap at each end to mount the Ice Light to a light stand or other accessory. The Ice Light comes with gel clips, battery power/charger cord and carry case with shoulder and belt straps.
