IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD Monitor for Cameras
In the video below, I check out the IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD Monitor that was sent to me recently. The Pro5 sports a 5″ screen with all of the straight forward features that an external monitor for this price point will get you.
The IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD Monitor was easy to use and straight to the point. Although it does not have all the bells and whistles that much more expensive LCD monitors come with, the Pro5 is fully equipped with the basics you’ll need. This monitor has a resolution of 800×480, and a contrast ratio of 600:1. It has a 1/4″ – 20 screw hole and comes with a 1/4″ – 20 ball head mount by which it attaches onto DSLRs and camcorders. It takes a camera signal by an HDMI input and is shipped with a sunshade.
Here are the specs you’ll get with the IndiPro Tools Pro5:
Valuable Focus and Calibration Features and More
Monochrome and color peaking: 2 modes that highlight an image to help with focus
Adjustable RGB: attains a look as accurate as possible to what is in front of the camera
Blue-gun: mode that helps calibrate the Pro5 by removing all colors but blue from an image
Underscan: shrinks an image a bit, revealing its edges, useful for certain production objectives
Native Canon 5D Live-View Output: shows images in the 5D’s aspect ratio, without stretching them

IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD Monitor with a Canon Battery Plate
IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD Monitor with a Sony Battery Plate

you say SONY L SERIES BATTERY PLATE, but the provided B&H links says “Canon LP-E6 Battery Plate Included”. so what is it? thx 4 answer!
@theonlycosta There are different options. Here is the link to the IndiPRO Tools Pro5 LCD with a Sony Battery Plate. I will also include a link in the post.
How does one go about calibrating the screen to the DSLR? …and is there any memory in the LCD monitor to ‘save’ the calibration once it is achieved?
I like the color peaking function and the price of this LCD monitor.
@Martin To Calibrate the monitor, set the DSLR or camera to color bars, then hit blue gun and calibrate accordingly. Also there is no custom setting, like user 1 and user 2, for example. The setting will stay the same according to what you program the monitor to, even when you power down. In order to get back to the original settings, you will manually reset them or just go to menu and hit reset mode on the monitor.
wow! I’ve been waiting for a review on this monitor for a while… thanks for doing this.
hi olivia
thanks for this review. is the 5″ monitor big enough for pulling focus or would a liliput 7″ 5d-ii be the better solution? does this monitor work with a eos 7d and with a gopro hero 3 black?
thanks
@Andre This monitor requires an HDMI connection, so long as your camera has an HDMI port, it will work. So yes for both the 7D and GoPro HERO 3 Black Edition. You can pull focus with the 5″, I was able to, it’s really up to you if you prefer a 7″.
Hi Olivia
I’m in a little bind as to choosing between this IndiPro and the Liliput 7″ 5d-ii. I know you may not want to go out on a limb here but which one, in your opinion, would be more useful on set by way of features and performance? is the 800×480 resolution of the IndiPro much of an issue? I guess i’m asking if you were on set which one would you rather have in a “Pickle” of a situation.
Appreciate your hard work.
@Dovelyn I hear you on this one, I just do not want to say one is better than the other since I have NOT used the Liliput 7″ Monitor. Does anyone out there have an opinion on this? Thanks for the user help!
Dovelyn – I have used a Liliput 7″. For under $200, it does all it should be expected to – composite your shot. Very tough to calibrate a true image. While it is “possible” to pull focus, the 800×480 resolution makes it difficult. Also, I’ve found the 7″ is too large for most practical rig applications, except for a jib (maybe just personal opinion).
I would give the IndiPRO a try. Hope this helps!
Thanks Daniel. I appreciate the heads up.
Olivia, can you tell me what type of HDMI cable this monitor use if I’m going to use it on my 5DM3. Thanks
@David You want to get an HDMI to HDMI Mini cable like this one.
