How to Make a DSLR Anti-Twist Plate

Caleb Pike from www.dslrvideoshooter.com shows us an awesome DIY solution for a DSLR anti-twist plate. We’ve all experienced it before, you have a full setup and your QR plate gets loose and starts to twist. DSLRs are wider than camcorders, which a lot of these video tripod plates were designed to support. Often times there is a small pin near the threading on the plate to create two contact points to keep the camcorder in place. With DSLRs, this isn’t the case since they have a wider surface area rather and a narrow one. Caleb’s DIY trick is simple and really creative. Thanks for sharing, Caleb!

  • Great, thank you! I was searching for that on cheesycam.com!
But I still can’t figure out, how to make untwistable, for example, RC2 plate mounted on express35 rig. They have some rubber plate on top of their rigs, but it was twisting from the beginning.

  • I used Caleb’s hack a few months ago. Two little changes… I got the EOS Strobo frame, and it fit the 7D perfectly without hacking (saw that is). Also I popped out the 2 little pins with a hammer, and it worked with everything. MAN no more twist, what a treat! This was one of the banes of my existence shooting with the 7D.
