How To Create An All Black Background

In this quick and simple tutorial we show you how to create a properly lit all black background.

In our infinite white video, we demonstrated how to create an all white backdrop. In this latest installment of our tutorial vids we’re using 4 fairly inexpensive CFL (compact fluorescent) lights. Each CFL Light has 5 bulbs and light output can be adjusted by turning off the individual bulbs within. Each head has a dedicated softbox and two layers of diffusion for flat even lighting. The lighting kit also comes with all the bulbs needed. These were from Amazon, but they can also be found via ebay here: CFL Lighting Kits + Softbox for Video Lighting

Hi Olivia, were you using a cfl for the seperation light as well? If so, did it have a tungsten bulb in it? It seems to have a warmer tone that the other lights. Thanks!

Hello Olivia, love your helpful tips and tricks, I just found you and i’m so excited. you are awesome.

Anyway, may I ask about the backgrounds, do you prefer the seamless paper or the fabric? Which one is more convenience and better for just youtube fashion and beauty gury, nothing to professional but not too low file :) I hope you understand what I mean :) thank you in advance

@Khuyen Hello and thank you! We only use seamless paper in the studio and I’m used to this type of background. Fabric is reusable but you must keep it clean and ironed.
