Hangrip New Falcon Follow Focus
We got our hands on a pre-production Falcon Follow Focus from Hangrip, and it’s a beauty. If you were lucky you too could have picked one up for under $200 dollars. The price for the final version is a bit higher now, but still sits in as one of the cheaper Follow Focuses available on the market today. Although we didn’t finding any excessive play in this pre-production model gear box, the difference in the final version is said to have a huge difference in the gear box making them ‘very solid’. The focus gear sits high in the middle which is perfect to connect to a variety of lens diameters or cameras with different heights, like when using a battery grip. This is a common problem with many smaller Follow Focus systems that would require you to purchase a seperate riser adapter.
Although the the Hangrip Falcon Follow Focus is a bit more expensive than the D-Focus, it’s also larger and we feel has a much better build quality. If you can hold out and save up for the difference, the Falcon is a solid buy. The Falcon comes with Universal Lens gears to custom fit your various lens types, and will mount to standard 15mm rails. Yeah, it still looks like crap. The D focus also looks like crap. I’m all about the budget, the DIY. My shoulder rig is a patch work quilt of Chinese parts.
…one of the cheaper of the more expensive follow focuses. It is smooth, never fails me. Never slips and I’m never afraid it’ll crack in half if I slam focus.
BUT, other than the camera and the lenses, the most expensive thing on my rig is my Genus Follow Focus
The Dfocus looks flimsy and the falcon just looks….silly. Idk. I knew someone who had a D focus and I tried it. I’ll try and find someone with a falcon and try that too.
Great job with the sight Olivia….it is becoming my post cheesycam site visit of the day.
I think it looks kind of sexy. If I wasn’t half way through building my own I’d seriously be interested in this. The only thing I don’t like is that the lens gears couldn’t be easily (quickly) swapped off and back on again. And if you wanted to use one customized for a smaller diameter lens you couldn’t swap it over to a larger lens..
Olivia,
do you still have the falcon? I just asked emm and he said to check out the falcon.
RJ FF seemed ok. but I like the features of the new Fogta FF.
I’ve lived without one so fat so I’ll manage without one a little longer.
I’m waiting for that one FF and everyone is highly praising at a affordable price.
I just wished edelkrone didn’t make their FF way over my budget. $950. It was a no brainer until they released pricing last week!
We test out different follow focuses. I’d suggest checking out Jag35, Fotga or the Falcon for lower priced FF’s. I know Letus is coming out with a brand new one as well, not too sure on the price point yet though.
