DIY Slider + Konova Geared Motor + Dynamic Perception MX2 Timelapse Controller + Merlin 2-Axis Pan Tilt Head

OliviaTech reader, Jayhas, sent over a video he created using a pretty sweet setup. Jayhas put together a series of Timelapse Video clips using a DIY Slider with the Dynamic Perception MX2 Timelapse Motion Controller and Acuter Merlin 2 Axis Pan Tilt Head combo along with the Konova Geared Motor to drive the unit. The Konova motor used in the speed comparison video below is the 1000:1 motor. It is the slowest in the range available from Konova and can be used for timelapse even when not using the interleave mode, however, it is recommended to use SMS (interleave) for long exposure timelapse.

Here is a bit of commentary from Jayhas, “I initially looked at the Konova Smart Motion Controller but balked at the price. Also how much support/updates of the firmware they can provide is a big guess especially when compared to the less expensive Dynamic Perception MX2 controller. Based on those factors I decided on the MX2 as controller for my Konova Motors and which also can control a Merlin Pan/Tilt head. **I had to use my DIY slider as my K3 slider is too short for longer timelapse.

    Thanks a lot Olivia.

This is the cheapest solution I found to have motion control for my timelapse craze:) That is after quite a bit of research and a few failed DIYs,

I haven’t tried night-time long exposure moves with it yet, but look forward to pairing the setup with Magic Lantern or GBTimelapse for day to night shots. I have already had successful workflows using both for ‘holy grail’ still timelapse.
