Canon C300 with Chuck Westfall PMA CES 2012

We felt there was enough information about the Canon C300 on the Internet, so we decided to see what 3 things Chuck Westfall thought people might not know about the C300.

The Canon C300 may not shoot like a RED, but there’s value to shooting a camera with extremely high quality, without the extensive RAW workflow, and without requiring expensive proprietary add-ons. That’s what made the Canon 5D Mark II so popular. I think it’s going to be a great camera, which we’ll be hearing lots more about as soon as it’s released to the masses. The Canon C300 is already available for pre-order.

I would rather have this camera instead of the Red. The Red has better resolution but the workflow is ridiculous, and there is so much other stuff you have to buy from Red to actually have a usable tool. Red is all about block buster films, and canon is trying to look out for us low budget filmmakers. Go canon!

Great, succinct report, well shot, and to the point. I think Red sales are going to drop dramatically once this camera gets into the working film community, from everything I’m reading and hearing online. Way too many DPs are saying the images are a revolution in HD…the most filmic image they’ve ever seen from a digital sensor. I can’t wait to rent it.
