I wanted to help out my friend Carlen Jewelle with her makeup blog so we shot a red lipstick video tutorial on our infinite white setup in the studio. We wanted to keep it casual and have some fun with the clip. Carlen did her thing and it gave us an opportunity to experiment with a mirrored tint plexiglass setup. The idea for this shoot was to keep her engaged with the audience while still being able to apply her makeup. We didn’t want Carlen looking away into a mirror the entire time so we needed to build something to shoot through. The plexiglass and black cloth tent mock up was constructed so we could shoot trough the mirror tint and avoid a lens flare or glare, and was also necessary to get maximum reflection in our DIY one way mirror. In oder to do this, we had to black out the area between the Diva Ring Light and the lens so there would be no light leaks, hence the black cloth tent.
Here is the finished product. If we do another video I’d like to trim it down to only a few minutes. This easily could have been a 3 part series.
Here’s some BTS images of our setup for the tutorial.
The Diva Ring light played an important role in this video. Often considered as a beauty ring it provided soft even flattering lighting, and giving us a way to shoot through the middle.BTS, Carlen Jewelle, Diva Ring Light, DIY, How To, in studio, infinite white, makeup blog, mirror tint, plexiglass, tutorial
