This year at CES PMA 2012, I met Lewis from Azden and he showed me their Azden Audio Mixer and DSLR Shotgun Microphones.
First the FMX DSLR mixer attaches under the camera while still allowing you to use a tripod.
Next Lewis shows me two Shotgun Mics specifically made for DSLR cameras, the Stereo SMX-10 and the Super Cardioid ECZ-990.

FMX-DSLR Portable Audio Mixer
A two-channel mixer designed specifically for use with a DSLR camera. It features twin XLR inputs so that you can utilize professional microphones with your camera by using the camera’s minijack output. The mixer has automatic gain control, a return feature and can be mounted directly to the camera or to a tripod for placement flexibility.

SMX-10
The Azden SMX-10 compact shotgun microphone records in stereo and is powered by a single AAA battery that provides up to 400 hours of continuous use. This dual uni-directional, electret-condensor mic measures 7 inches long with a 0.7-inch diameter, and it weighs just 1.83 ounces (without battery).
It includes a permanently attached coiled cable coming out the back that plugs into 1/8-inch (3.5mm) jacks. Other features include a foam windscreen, lo-cut switch to minimize rumble and wind noise, and camera hot-shoe mount.

ECZ-990

The pick-up pattern of the built-in microphone on camcorders is omni-directional, meaning that it picks up all sounds in every direction equally, no matter which direction you point the camcorder. The ECZ-990 is a 6″ long directional, or “zoom” microphone with a super-cardioid pattern (ellipse shaped). It will pick up your subject’s sound more clearly, reducing side noises. With 2 positions, narrow and wider, the ECZ-990 has a range of 35 feet, uses 1 “AAA” battery, and comes with a windscreen, shoe mount and hook-and-loop mounting tape.
